Phumelela Cafu : I want to fight the best guys

South African WBO Junior Bamtamweight world champion Phumelela “The Truth” Cafu relishes the prospect of coming face to face with great pugilists in his quest to make the list among the country’s all time best boxing champions when he exchanges blows with Jesse “Bam” Rodriguez in Frisco, Texas on July 19.

Cafu will be aiming to dethrone the WBO, WBC Super Flyweight champion while also challenging for the Ring Magazine accolade held by the San Antonio native.

Speaking to SA Boxing Talk, Cafu sounded the alarm to his detractors as he promised his fans to bring back the title by dominating the fight and knocking out Rodriguez.

Like I’ve been saying, I want to fight the best guys in the division and I believe Bam is one of the best guys. I’ve just beaten a four-division world champion, now I’m about to beat a future Hall of Famer. So it’s really amazing, man. It’s really amazing. These are the fights that I want, you know. These are the fights that give me chills, you know. These are the fights that make me get up when I don’t want to get up, you know. So yeah, man. It’s really amazing. It’s really amazing. I expect an upset. I expect me dominating the fight, if not dominating the fight, me knocking out Bam Rodriguez.

And yeah, man. I believe, I think a lot of people think I’m cocky and all, but you know, I work very hard. You’ve seen some of my camp.I work very hard, man. Sometimes I have about three sessions a day, you know. So that’s what it takes to be a champion and I’m willing to do everything.I’ve been saying I want to be one of the greatest boxers. So lucky for me, man. I’m heading there and with everything, with true God, everything is possible.
